19-year-old charged with manslaughter after alleged accidental shooting

A 19-year-old man was arrested recently and charged with first-degree manslaughter after he allegedly shot his friend in the head by accident. Authorities say the teenager then tried to hide the crime by attempting to dismember the victim's body.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. at a home in Spokane. Police were reportedly called to the home around 6 a.m. Upon entering, they found the body of the 19-year-old victim. Another man and a woman were apparently at the home at the time of the alleged accidental shooting.

Police say the victim died of a gunshot wound to the head. They claim to have found the weapon used in the alleged shooting at the home.

A situation like this can often be classified as a terrible tragedy and nothing more. It appears that a night of fun with friends went horribly wrong when a group of young people made some poor decisions. Sadly, one man lost his life and another could face severe criminal penalties for his alleged actions.

In instances like this, those accused of manslaughter or murder would benefit from consulting with an experienced criminal defense attorney as early on in a case as possible. Whether the accused chooses to pursue a plea agreement or fight the charges in court, an attorney can help an individual determine the best course of action moving forward.

The criminal justice system is complex. Facing serious criminal charges can be frightening, especially for young people. Fortunately, people do not have to go through the process alone.
