Former Huskies' football coach arrested for domestic violence

Spokane criminal charges for anyone are serious, but when they involve well-known individuals, they can damage a person's reputation beyond repair. Of particular concern are accusations of domestic violence, which includes various forms of emotional and physical abuse of spouses or other family members.

This could be the case for Jim Lambright, former head football coach of the University of Washington Huskies. He now faces charges of fourth-degree domestic violence and assault for an incident involving family members on June 18.

Snohomish police say they met the 72-year-old man and three females, Lambright's wife and two granddaughters, outside Lambright's Snohomish home. According to family members, Lambright grabbed his 23-year-old granddaughter, and tried to force her and the others to leave his house and property because he did not like their attitudes. He claims he did not hurt his granddaughter. The granddaughter told officers that she was only at the residence to visit her father. Lambright's wife told the officers that her husband is suffering from dementia and what she described as "explosive disorder," and his behavior was proof that his medical condition was getting worse. Lambright was head coach of the Huskies in the 1990's for six seasons.

Lambright was arrested at his home and later released after paying a personal recognizance bond. Both Lambright's wife and the two granddaughters have requested a Snohomish County court to issue a no-contact order out of fear that Lambright's aggression against them was escalating.

Simple misunderstandings can certainly result in criminal charges that can affect an individual's life. If there are valid reasons, such as medical conditions, that could have played a role in abusive behavior by a defendant, then the domestic violence charges could be dropped. In such cases, the knowledge and legal understanding of a professional could be vital.
